For customers who want to use the new R1 as a bedside radio, we’ve added dual alarms which allows for once, daily, weekday and weekend settings. Both alarms (radio or buzzer) can be set to the volume required, depending on whether you’re a light or heavy sleeper. Also included is an adjustable sleep timer and snooze function.

Time, programme and set-up information are clearly shown on a large format display, which automatically adjusts its brightness to suit the ambient light level. In addition the display can be set to turn off after a specified period if required.

On the rear panel an output for headphones is provided along with an audio output and a switchable auxiliary input. This allows an iPod/iPhone or suchlike to be connected and enjoyed with R1’s sonorous sound.

BackPack & CarryPack

Portable music players with headphones have undoubtedly killed off the traditional ‘transistor radio’ as we knew it, but nevertheless from talking with customers we found that many still desire a radio that can be carried and enjoyed where mains power is not available.

As always with Vita Audio we’ve not followed convention! Placing batteries inside a radio steals valuable speaker capacity and this often results in poor sound quality. To overcome this we developed an optional rechargeable power pack which attaches and integrates onto the back panel of the new R1. Called ‘BackPack’ this stylish device provides power for hours of ‘mains-free’ listening. The power supply that comes with R1 doubles as a charger making R1 always ready for picnics or just ‘chilling out’ in the bath.

Adding further to the new R1’s appeal, we have designed a complementary hand stitched leather case to protect and aid portability. ‘CarryPack’ brings an unabashed retro inspired feel to R1 and further enhances its design and tactility.
